We held a bamboo shoot harvesting day

This spring, we held a bamboo shoot (takenoko) harvesting day in the satoyama.

Walking through the bamboo grove, you look for the tips just peeking out of the ground, then dig them out with a hoe. When a big shoot finally comes up out of the soil, everyone lets out a little cheer.

Freshly dug bamboo shoots are one of the satoyama's spring gifts. We will keep sharing our seasonal activities here in the news.
